Chapter Seventeen

Chapter 17's reading went over the process of revise and editing.  Revising involves rethinking and re-envisioning your document.  During the revising process be sure to consider your writing situation, consider your arguments and ideas, consider your use and integration of sources, consider the structure and organization, and lastly consider the genre and design.  When revising, it is helpful to imagine how your readers will react to your document and to ask questions as you go along.  When revising, you'll first want to check the clarity of your thesis statement.  Strategies you should use to revise include saving multiple drafts, highlight your main point, reasons, and evidence, challenge your assumptions, scan, outline, and map your document, and ask for feedback.  As you begin to edit your document, you should focus on five categories.  Focus on accuracy, economy, consistency, style, and spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  Strategies to use as you edit consist of reading carefully, mark and search your document, use spelling, grammar, and style tools, carefully and ask for feedback.  Reading aloud is a good use of time.  Reading aloud allows you to help find problems that you may not have found when reading silently.  As you come across errors, highlight specific problems.  These are all useful tools to help you through the revise and editing process.
